REVIEW: Anker Roav Dash Cam C1

I recently acquired the excellent Anker Roav Dash Cam C1 and have put it through a series of tests over the last several weeks.

There are a number of features which make this product appealing including the high-quality, wide-angle lens which produces excellent video in daylight and good quality video at night, the 1080p resolution, the use of easily-found micro-sd cards for storing recordings, and the fact that it comes with two mounting plates so the camera can be used in multiple vehicles.

The camera body itself doesn't allow movement once it is on the bracket, but the lens portion can be shifted up and down in order to compensate for the angle of your windshield. No side-to-side adjustment is available, however, so the bracket should be mounted as close to the center of your windshield as possible.

It can record sound from the vehicle's interior or that feature can be disabled for privacy. In addition to the 1080p 30fps standard resolution, there is also a 720p 60fps option.

As with any dash cam, the quality and clarity of the video are impacted by the cleanliness and reflectivity of your windshield.

Power is supplied by the onboard rechargeable battery and by the included 12-volt charger and USB-style cable. The battery allows for use even when the vehicle is stopped (and thus supplying no power) and using the "parking monitor" feature which turns on the camera when movement is detected. (To clarify, it's not a motion detector, but it detects physical movement such as if the car is bumped.)

A date and time stamp is embedded into the video by default. The "Roav" watermark on the video is optional.

The included screen allows for reviewing recorded footage and changing settings, and there is also an option to connect the camera to a smartphone via WiFi in order to change settings and review the video. This latter option also allows downloading video clips to your phone and easy sharing to Facebook and YouTube.

Below you can see some test footage from the camera. (Switch it to 1080p to see the best quality.) It looked a bit better before uploading to YouTube, in my opinion.

All-in-all, the Anker Roav Dash Cam C1 is an excellent dash cam with a comprehensive feature-set available at a decent price.
